Orla Taylor was inspired to write A Children's ABC of the Gulf to provide her three children with a book that would remind them of their time in Bahrain. Orla chose to write the book in poetic form as she wanted to create a book that combined fun with learning and catered to children of all ages. The result is a beautiful 60 page, hard-bound book that will entertain children of all nationalities.

While Orla created the poems inspired by a variety of subjects relevant to the Gulf, such as Bedouins, pearls of Umm Ali, Bahraini artist Omar Hussain came up with the delightful drawings. The poems are listed in alphaetical order taking the reader through the entire alphabet. As an extra challenge, each page has a tiny bug hidden somewhere in the colourful illustrations.
